This is the first dagger I picked up at the SOS about 30 minutes in while walking around with my friend Ivan and made the show for me as this crossguard was missing from my collection. Early Voos double oval with nickel plated tapered tang blade. The crossguard is an early generic variety quite difficult to find and usually seen on early daggers by Axt and Plumacher. The guard IMO is a unique type although similar to the Alcoso type-1. The guard is extensively hand enhanced although difficult to tell under the heavy silver plating other examples I have examined show this same trait. Beautifully detailed pommel and early scabbard with the flat head double screws (Alcoso?) The dagger was purchased with a set of early brass based hangers they appear to be original to the dagger Voos certainly made some beautiful early daggers.

Still as envious now as I was at the show, great dagger Tom and a worthy addition to your collection.

Congrats Tom, This is a great piece with a unique scabbard too! The bands are ones that I haven't seen with this guard before, is it steel or brass based? Voos really was a maker that sourced its fittings from more different makers than any other maker I know of(and all in the earlier years of production!)The guard is a very nice example of this rare type with the wing feathering and smaller proportions. Can't wait to see what you dig up next!! Kevin.

Wim & PVON- Thank you Sirs !
Gary- Thank you I always enjoy seeing you at the shows and seeing what you find! And usually learn something in the process.
Kevin-The scabbard is steel and looks like the type you see on the early Wingen very bulbous itís identical to the last Voos I posted with the single oval except the tip is smaller and of course the screw configuration.

Tom,

Even if you only found one dagger per year and this was the one you'd be a very lucky collector! wink

Beyond a shadow of a doubt that's a marvelous Herr dagger in my book. Congratulations on your find and thanks for your usual outstanding snaps.

All the best!
