Vladimir, While I would like some better pictures, especially of the blade and its etching. My sense of the entire sword 'package' is parts and pieces ...... old, new, and out of place. And if it was not been done earlier - Welcome to the Forum. Best Regards, FP

I'm almost positive the portepee is a reproduction. Never saw one of these with a felt buffer. They usually are of leather. The blade calls for additional scrutiny. It is easy to swap a blade on these. There are reproduction etched blades for these and the etching here appears to be of low quality. Does it have a maker mark?

The hilt and scabbard fittings, including the grip, appear to be authentic.

If the etching is period correct it is a major find so far I have only seen two Police swords with etched blades.

If you look at the etched eagle, it is somewhat "ragged," not the fine etching seen on period etches. It is not symmetrical, if you compare the wings, in particular. And there are the "connectors" between the wings and the body. The etch line above the eagle is irregular in spots and you can see scattered flaws in the background. If the blade is of the period, I seriously doubt it was done by one of the German makers. At best, it could have been made in an occupied or other Axis country. However, that's a stretch because etchers of that period, in practically every country, were masters.

sword fittings, handle and scabbard appear correct and period....portepee is a "poor" reproduction and the blade and felt washer are both bogus...entirely fake blade. That etch itself is unknown during the Third reich period...a post war assembled piece made to deceive. Sorry, regards, Ryan

I agree. The etched SS blade is most certainly a fake. It is very easy to make Frankenstein pieces out of these Polizei-Degens.
