Gentlemen,
that's an interesting Pack Heer directly from the grandson of the officer.

Interesting the early Aluminium crossguard/pommel configurarion.

Hope you guys like it.

A beautiful dagger in stunning condition. It is always a pleasure to see such fine examples. To say that I am green with envy would be an understatement....they really do not come any better than that!

Congratulations on an exceptional acquisition.

WOW...Super Heer!! Look at the finish on that scabbard, just smokin and truly as good as it gets. The portopee even looks to be the same one in the pic! LOVE it! Congrats.. Kevin.

Gentlemen,

thank you so much for your kind words.

Interestingly this dagger still belongs to one of my best friends, the grandson of the former owner.

i was able to talk this artefact away from him back in the early ninetees, but after a while I thought that the dagger of his grandfather should belong to him and I gave it back.. Funnily this was the start of my hobby.

I've made these pics today to post it here, but the dagger still belongs to my friend and his family.
And that is a good thing.

The family will read this, so thank you so much for your kind comments.

Warmest regards;
Hermann

Gentlemen,

again thanks for your kind comments on this beauty.

Let's do a small comparison between this early Pack and a later one. Just to entertain and educate us a little bit. Of course most of the fellow members here know about the differences, but to see a rare Pack variation side by side with a more common one could be some fun.

Obviously the Aluminium crossguard looks completely different to the later piece, of course a matter of taste what one preferes.

Also interesting to see the difference between the early slant-grip variaton and the later grip. Slant grips are way more elegant imo.

Nice to see the original Portepes attached. Always great to find a complete rig.

Thanks for looking.

Hermann, I have to say that your gesture to return this beautiful dagger to the family
is a credit to you as a true gentleman & thank you for posting a dagger that we may
otherwise not have had the pleasure to see.

regards

Vaughan

Vaughan,
thank you so much for your kind words. The owner is one of my best friends, maybe with someone else I would not have acted that way. ;-)

Hermann, thank you so much for posting this and dating this Pack style trademark. I have always contended that this style was an early one and had an on-going discussion with Wayne Techte the author of the book on Engraved Bayonets who claimed this style trademark was from the early war years and not the 1930s. This dagger establishes the time frame rather nicely IMO.

I have three Pack TMs on Luft2s (a fourth if you consider a solid belt vs a frayed belt as a real variation).

Here are my TMs.. the small Siegfried (solid and frayed belts), the large Siegfried and a large Siegried with no arch.

John,

thank you for the additinal shots, I'll put them into my files, thinking of writing something about this maker, maybe in the near future.

Ronald,

great that this dagger is also interesting for you. So it's true every day we will learn something, even it wasn't really new for you. Thanks for looking on this artefact.
Here you will find the Pack mm from 1912, looks pretty close to the one I've posted first: http://www.germanautoandaerocorps.com/automobilclub/english/side_weapons.html

Thanks to all for your interest.
