He belonged to the number Theodor Wisch(4759)

Hi,
interesting. I think Wisch's dagger was sold with other personel belongings by the family back in 1997? The dagger re-appeared in a few auctions since then.
Is it for sale again?

Unusual cap skull and cord. This dagger was on Gunbroker.com for many months at around $8500.

It can be very difficult to tell if these numbers were added during the Third Reich period or later. A suitable set of dies, as those used back then, can be used to stamp a cross guard. A better and more expert eye than mine is needed for a knowledgeable opinion and, even then, it could be difficult to tell. There is no standard pattern for these numbers and several types were used back then. It could be the light. But these numbers have a fresh, shiny look to them. To me, they are suspicious, but I could not say with certainty they are postwar applied. If that is the case, adding the photo of the original owner is a nice touch to add to any deception. The dagger itself looks perfectly authentic.

The dagger itself looks perfectly authentic. I am going to have to agree with the above. When you look at the "I" on the side of cross guard it has the look/age that you would expect to see. But I don't get the same sense of age with the numbers on the bottom side. FP
