I picked this dagger up a few weeks ago and although the blade isn't as nice as I like to see them, I really liked the personalization. The back of the crossguard is engraved "Weihn. 1939" and the pommel has the initials "AB".

That`s a good honest dagger, I like it and as I always say, they can`t all be prom queens!

Rich,

Your "Christmas 1939" dagger is a nice find, congratulations. I wouldn't mind at all if it were in my collection. Thanks.

Gentleman,

Thank you for your respected opinions as they are always welcome. I'm not up on my German translation and had no idea this was a "Christmas Dagger", however now that I know, it means that much more to me. I know that "Forhe Weihnacht" and Krigs Weihnacht translates to "Merry Christmas" and "Christmas War" as per (Google Translate) but just the word "Weihn" threw me off and didn't translate.

Thank again for your much appreciated and respected knowledge.

Rich

Rich,

Just to clarify, It looks like a period behind Weihn. If it is, then IMO it's the abbreviation for "Weihnachten", which means Christmas? If not then a last name? Thank you and much luck with future finds!
