Hello again, I need your opinion about this German bayonet 98/05 of the First World War. I would like to know what you think about its originality. Sorry, for the size of the photos as I can not get them bigger. And also apologize if this is not the place to talk about this bayonet. greetings Alex

Hello
No problem it is an original 98/05 2nd type. It seems to be an "hybrid" 98/05 2nd type. The 2nd type 98/05 was made since the beginning of 1915 and it had a flashguard. Some bayonets from the begenning of 1915 were not made with this flashguard. Unfortunately there is no date on the spine of the blade but the woooden grips fit perfectly the hilt and it seems they were not made to be adapted to a flashguard.

The bayonet looks like SG98/05aA but the crossguard has probably removed the lips of the halfring, the push button is too problematic as little damaged. Looks like pommel was cleaned from rust. The price is important by the choice.

The price is in range, but i personally dont like the rust on pommel, same as the locking nut was probably cleaned separately and looks like other piece on the surface, the push button was damaged. The maker is a good one, but no acceptance year. You should compare other similar items on Ebay.

Hello
160 is expensive for this kind of bayonet. For this maker it is usual the spine of the blade be undated. Some of them are stamped W17 (1917).
