Dear fellow collectors, the year is almost over and I've decided to make an "Ugliest bird contest" just for fun. I examined my Heer daggers on a cold and rainy sunday afternoon to figure out which one has got the ugliest crossguard eagle. And believe me it was very hard to decide! There were 3 contestants very close to win.
But in the long run the winner was the Plümacher eagle. It is indescribably ugly. I am not an ornithologist, but it is not an eagle for sure. Enjoy.

The second best was the well-known SMF turkey.

And last but not least an "eagle" from a very early KLAAS dagger.

As they say, 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder'. To me, they are beauties. Now if you want one with ugly mug, I'd pick a Tomahawk. With a schnoz almost as big as it's ugly square head, it look like the Yenta from Hell.

I agree with Serge, the Tomahawk eagle is an ugly bird, but at least it looks angry! My vote goes to the Klaas. It has a big round head with oversized beak and what appears to be cheeks stuffed with bubblegum. It has a rather oblivious expression of mental vacancy. Klaas Dodo for sure… Now, having said this, I would like to add that; given the fact that all 3 of the initial contenders come equipt with slant grips and fantastic early construction, if your eyes become too painful from looking at these antique-eyesore eagles, please send them directly to me. I promise that I will keep them safe from the prying and vulnerable eyes of…everyone. Nice daggers! Johnny

Serge, HAHAA that is very funny! I think the SMF is the weirdest looking DO DO bird out there! I have included a pic of my Plumacher guard, the strangest bird in my collection with a "flatter head" look than yours Janos. Like to see more of your initial production Plumacher to compare to mine as it is one of the couple I have ever seen in 30+ years of collecting! Kevin.
