I'm posting this hoping I am not violating any forum rules but would like to learn some things. If acceptable, I don't want to turn this thread into sometning that will allow potential fakers to perfect there craft. I have not had the opportunity to handle a true chained SS but am curious. I study the internet and the sites of the vendors here at GD.com. It can be a challenge to look at something on one site to another without keying in on things to look for. This chained SS recently appeared on an internet auction site and I followed it. My gut feel said bad but I don't know why (or if I am even correct). Primarily, I didn't like the inscription (too bold) and the ideal condition of the scabbard anodization. I could be way off. In short, I'm curious if there are some key things you more knowledgable guys can point out that suggest it is good or bad. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=320941742I've also read the comments on seeking forum activity and I know I would be interested in this. I also hope to some day be able to post my own chained SS. Thanks!

Your gut is right on about the motto. Might be OK for an M33 but not a chained. That being said... I see no other red flags.

Without digging into a lot of research, the dagger could be a fully ground Rohm example. Although photos are not comprehensive, the chain looks pretty good, but appears to be mounted a bit low on the scabbard. If it is authentic, it could have been added to an M33 scabbard as a "field upgrade." If so, that could explain the motto on the blade and that it is likely a Rohm. It's hard to fully evaluate this dagger with the scant information available and, as always, a thorough "hands on" examination would be more telling.

Good theory, but the reverse of the blade shows no wavering of the center spine that would be present with a ground Rohm. As Grumpy stated, this dagger would take a hands-on inspection to determine originality.

I have some serious concerns to that dagger, especially the center band and chain. It needs a "hands on" to say for sure but, I think I am correct. Best Wishes, Bob

I'm with Bob on this one, Scabbard appears reblued , the chain and suspension are suspicious looking and that blade ......well!
