Hi guys just picked up this nearly mint NSKK crash helmet with first pattern adler. No damage and only wear to interior sweatband. Even has a soft pliable sponge present to forehead area...almost impossible to find in this condition anymore. Never before in a collection. Enjoy. Posted in Classifieds. cheers, Ryan

Ryan...

I have always liked these helmets...but I have a question about the eagle on this helmet...you say it is the first pattern
helmet...please click on the below link and If you don't mind "why are the eagles legs (length) different between these two helmets"...both say they are first pattern?? I am really interested in this helmet,it sure is in Great Condition Thanks
Ryan...

Hi Sepp, I saw the helmet you have posted belonging to Peter Whammond as well. It is perhaps more correct to say, "first pattern NSKK eagle" as opposed to first pattern helmet, as the helmets are almost all identical. These have the later applied NSKK linen tags which are proper for helmets having both adlers. In the case of my example the eagle is original and has always been on the helmet. A second pattern eagle has never been affixed to this helmet. The eagles often settle nicely into the leather after 80+ years and leave their visible imprint upon the leather. In some cases collectors attach the more desireable second pattern eagle in order to make the helmets more appealing and marketable. The eagles were produced by different makers and both eagles referenced are correct and appear period. I do not see the difference to which you reference. Thanks and regards, Ryan
