I would like to start a thread on fire axes and fire daggers. Billy already has a great thread on fire bayonets, so let's focus on these other items.
I have three axes in my collection that we can start with.
First off, is a plain, silver fire axe, nothing fancy. As with most of these, there is no maker mark to be found.
Sometimes, you can find these with dedications and presentations on the panel found on the shaft.

This axe is slightly smaller and has an etched fire motif on both sides of the axe blade. It also has no maker mark.

This last axe, just arrived chez JohnZ, is gold in colour and has an etch pattern that is very similar to the one found on the silver axe.
Best of all, it is one of the few that you will find that has a maker mark, Horster. Now, if only Eickhorn made and marked fire axes (I can dream, can't I?).

And, here is a larger version of this fire dagger. It also has a double oval serrated tail squirrel over CE TM and it has serrated teeth. The blade is not etched.

John,
An excellent idea and some fine Feuerwehr axes!
Here is your Eickhorn axe. This is an unmarked example of the Eickhorn Nr.915 as shown in the catalog.

And here is an example of one that is more like Lou's plain jane style hammerhead axe on the right. This one is maker marked but I have never figured out who the maker was. This one is more of a working style axe with polished steel fittings.

Nice collection guys,
I've always liked the presentation and functional type of Feuerwehrbeil,(axe) The pointed pike end was also used to open manhole covers to access the underground fire hydrants. Some had a triangular shaped key to access the above ground fire hydrants, almost like a train key. Thanks for showing them!

Nice to see so many here again. Great examples guys. Here's a 1928 presentation retirement piece I believe. The dedication with dates on one obverse plaque. The Towns and/or stations where he served. Quite a career.

Serge,
Your axe is also an Eickhorn. It is shown as the Nr.490 in the Eickhorn catalog. Eickhorn produced around eight different axes, including the plain style shown originally by John. John's plain axe is not an Eickhorn however, but they did make a plain one in this style.

ORPO, Thank You !, for that nice piece of info as I really admired the quality and workmanship of the axe but wished I knew who the maker was. Now that explains it. serge

Serge,
You are welcome. Below is a page from the prewar Eickhorn export catalog to Schweden showing the fire axes Eickhorn had available. You will see yours, and mine, listed there.

John,
Let me see if I can take some closeup photos of the large folio catalog that will show some detail and send them to you.
Some very nice Feuerwehr edged weapons are showing up in this thread. Here is a dagger by Clemen & Jung and a group of FW sidearms for your viewing pleasure.

Thank you all for showing these great under rated items.
ORPO, that etched fire bayo is one hard-to-find specimen. Most of the etches that I have seen (and seen offered by dealers) are just plain wrong. Nice to see a real one.

John I concur John. You don't find Fire daggers like ORPO's example 'on the loose'. A screamer rig you got there ORPO, ...HOT-Cha-Cha-Cha ! serge

Thank you gents! I agree with dippy that these accouterments are hard to find. I like accouterments too and one seldom sees loose FW knots and hangers.
So, here is a FW sword with the proper FW Officer Portepee.

Nice to see so many here again. Great examples guys. Here's a 1928 presentation retirement piece I believe. The dedication with dates on one obverse plaque. The Towns and/or stations where he served. Quite a career. This wonderful ivory gripped fire axe does have an anniversary inscription which says D. freiw.Feuerwehr Leubnitz - To the voluntary firebrigade Leubnitz zur 50 Jahrfeier, gewidmet, - dedicated to the celebration of the 50 years anniversary 6./7.1878 26./8.1928 - 6.7.1878 26.8.1928 On the other side there are engraved some obvious locally associations like the „house owners assoc.“, the athletic assoc., the railroad assoc., the military assoc. and others more, which might have payed together for this certain (expensive) presentation axe. I am not very experienced in these items but for sure they are part of the collection field if you do collect edged weapons. This thread is a valuable comprehensive of a lot of variants. Thank you for showing. Regards,
