Hello all,

Anyone ever seen a green one of these before? For me, this is a first, though the paint looks period. Any thoughts on this one or why it was painted this way?

William,

Is it paint over leather? Very odd, never seen anything like it.

Looks like perhaps the leather was stripped due to severe damage as seen on scabbard and then applied several thick coats of enamel paint.
Western allies troops like to make a boot knife out of this model dirk.
I don't think a German would would combat abuse a dress dagger, might get sent to a Penal Battalion for that. shocked

I agree with Serge and others.

The leather was removed (probably due to poor condition) and the pieces painted.
You can see the lower scabbard-fitting screw is askew in the last photo.

Paul you are obsessed with npeas .I think it is most likely from the fliegergrass unit who were in charge of cutting the lawns at all airfields.

Could be Diplo-or possibly airfield barbers? reverse upper scabbard mount should be inscribed "Herr Cutter" in this instance. laugh
