This collector I do not know called me up and has 20 daggers for sale. The key one is the Postschutz. I don't recall ever seeing a real one. Is there a tell tale point or two to spot the fake or assure original? I am going to see them tomorrow. Doug

Sadly these days there is nothing that will 100% assure originality of any dagger other than experience in hand. Confirm the manufacturer is Weyersberg and that the grip insignia is correct and properly affixed, check the chain clip by comparison to others -check my website or Johnson/Wittman/Hogle ,and if all looks to be ok post copious pics here. The best guys in the hobby are here and you'll get the best advice available

I agree with Paul, used to be that the reproductions were fairly easy to spot. Not so much anymore. Get some well-detailed pics & post them if there's any question whatsoever.

The fakes of this dagger are pieces of junk, Most fakes of this dagger will not have a chain and clip, Scabbard fittings are plated brass and poorly made. Grip is a light balsa wood poorly dyed. Grip emblem on and does not lay on top like the originals. I don't remember seeing a recent fake of this dagger.

Checked it out. Weyersberg, no chain or clip, no number or DRP. I kind of like the no number or DRP thing. Might of been unissued. Hated the goofy eagle just sitting on the grip. It was not inset like an SA. I don't know. I just might stop by again and take some pics to post. I have this silver 1st Luft. with a cheesy aluminum chain hanger. Might have to contrast and compair what I have with what is pictured on the link above.

It would be nice to see pictures. Eagle on the grip is correct. I would not buy one with out the chain. The correct "DRGM" marked clip is hard to find. That's if it's real.

For yuourself at least by a Johnson's Handbook!!! For $25.00 you can have a decent small reference book to carry and it will cover almost everything you need to know for ID and construction. Please!!!
