Just got one. Don't recall ever seeing one with a stick eagle on it. Are they common? Doug

I think you mean the Waffen Amt mark, these are pretty common on luft daggers.

Weyersberg and SMF had Waffen Amt stamps on every dagger they produced. And, they were the largest supplier of Luft2s.
I have also seen it on early Eickhorns.

The Waffen Amt stamp was used to indicate inspection by the armed forces to make sure that the daggers met the standards.
Certain manufacturers had it for every dagger (ie for all combat bayonets) and others had it for a short period of time.
There were some daggers that were given to trainees to use during their training period. Many of these were serial numbered. You can often find these on Luft1s and on DLVs.

The stamp on common Luft2s like SMF or Weyersberg does not add any value to the blade... it is expected that all blades by them would have it and if you find one that doesn't then that is a serious red flag. Since these makers are commonly found, daggers by them would command ordinary prices.
The stamp on early blades alone, like the Eickhorn, could demand a premium, but only from silly people like me who collect blade marking variations. Most collectors would not pay a premium for this.

There was a time when government property marked (Luft-Waffenamted) Luftwaffe daggers were commonly found with personalizations like names, initials, and coats of arms. With the “dealer/collector” argument being that all of the daggers in a given factory were so marked - and being sold privately that way. And that it was perfectly OK to accept the personalizations because they were private property - and so many personalized Luft-Waffenamted daggers were in circulation which was “proof” that they were not government property.
But then there was some “reality check time” as the matter was looked at in more detail. Because traditionally senior grade NCO’s carried officer’s dress sidearms provided at government expense. And there was probably some overage in Luftwaffe armories to temporarily accommodate visiting officers, for special ceremonies, etc. With the Luftwaffe regulations being changed on several occasions, so that even low ranking enlisted men who had flight status (a large number) were also authorized to carry the officer’s model dagger. With the personalization of privately owned daggers not being a problem. What did change however, were the regulations which governed who could wear the 1st model after certain dates. Which is something that has led to some " interesting" discussions on this forum, and several others. FP
