It is what remains of a German navy dagger from before 1918. The blade is from something else, but the crossguard, pommel, and grip look real. The grip looks a little short (?)

Parts dagger In my opinion. The cross guard is really old mid 19 century . Pommel is 1890 or newer. Grip is celluloid and not ivory. Notice how the grip material deforms plastically rather than brittlely such as on the hit on the second scroll up from the cross guard. This is characteristic of man made material and not ivory or bone. The blade is not characteristic of a naval blade of any sort I have seen. Old cross guard is really interesting.

The damage to the second rib looks fibrous to me. I dont know what it is but it is very old as evidenced by the very aged & intricate grip wire. The pommel and x guard are exactly matching in tone & patina so this has been together for a very, very long time. Just my observations.

I was asked to give an opinion on this piece. I like it for a child's dagger with celluloid grip. The scabbard made these pieces as the blades were very cheaply constructed. Genuine period piece for sure. vic
