Hey Guys,

I`m not very clued up on swords, so here`s one I`d like to purchase, but knowing they reproduce these now as well, I`d like to get some feedback from the guys who know their story ;)Maker is Holler.
Pics are not the best, so I do apologise! Thanks in advance Gents!

Without researching the exact model, it does look authentic. There are reproductions of these sabers, but the quality is lacking. I would note the hilt loos as though it has been cleaned, perhaps with a chemical or wire brush. It might be down to the brass base, with the plating removed in the cleaning process. It has more of a "brassy"look than a gold one. Could be the lighting. If such is the case, it would tend to lower the value. As is often the case, a "hands on" examination is needed to determine the exact aspects of the sword.

I agree. Looks like a Seilheimer handguard to boot!

Hey Guys,

Thanks for taking the time to answer. What I would like to know is, does the Lion head look good?? I thought all the lion heads had glass eyes? So is this model a good one for Holler?

Thanks,
Dion

Yes, the photographs are not the best. Can you find anywhere traces of chiseling? I can not. Especially the lions head normally is a vast field for the chiseleur.
Up to now I havent seen an army lionshead without glass eyes.
Personally I would be very careful and do a close, intensive examination.
Regards,

There are original lionhead sabers without the glass eyes. If you look at the original factory pricelists, you will note that not all models were offered with the glass eyes and in some cases they were available at extra cost. The Eickhorn Model 1324 is a good example, I have one with and one without the glass eyes. The original factory catalogs and price lists also indicate that sabers were available in plain brass or "tombak", without the gilding, although most that you see were gilded. I have seen one or two which had absolutely no traces of ever having been gilded, and these are potentially legitimate original condition pieces. Joe S
