Hello:

Paul at Lakesidetrader lists this as a valid RZM #. It wasn't listed in some of the earlier publications.

Story behind this dagger - a local "Antique Roadshow" went bankrupt. The owner told his employees to take their last week pay in merchandise. A young kid grabbed this dagger and I got it from him. I've been told it is a "parts dagger" and "I don't like the handle".

I've read everything I can find on SS Daggers and I just don't see anything definitive. I read an excellent post on this forum by the moderator on fake daggers. I guess I'm looking for an education as I don't have a ton of $ in this and I'd like to collect more in the future.

I've included a ton of pics. Maybe others can learn from this too? Thanks in advance for your input.

From the provided pics,it's hard to say "parts dagger" or not.
Need some better pics and some close-ups.
But it doesn't looks bad,

Hi from the pictures the dagger appears fine and original. What is it about the handle that you don't like? The fit to the crossgards looks fine in the pictures, better in fact than some RZM daggers, the blade to include the maker mark also appears fine, from the pictures....From what I can see I would estimate the value at $1850 to $2250, more if a rare or particularly scarce/desireable RZM code. Nice aquisition.....cheers, Ryan

I agree the handle does not fit the crossguards well. The blade looks as if it has been sharpened. That being the case the dagger is ruined and not worth much.

Just thinking out loud: feel free to disagree or comment. The tint on the cross guard seems to make the handle look a bad match. Lot of contrast. Looks better in person (yet not perfect). I actually can manipulate the handle and line it up to where it is almost perfect.

The blade does have some scratches. The scabbard is pretty tight. Not sure if this is the sole/correct reason for the less than perfect blade. No wiggle when in the scabbard. BUT I'd think a lot of other SS Blades would present this same way and they don't so....?

This looks like a blade someone tried to sharpen. The RZM 285/38 pictured doesn't have similar marks. Again, all comments very welcome. Just trying to learn. FYI

It looks good to me. The blade sharpening can be improved upon with proper polishing in those areas. Be careful wiggling the grip. They tend to be fragile. Wiggling can cause one or more corners to chip off and can create cracks. I would align the grip and tighten (but not overly tighten) the tang nut.
