This baby just came in the mail today. The website describes it as an authentic shell (size 62) industrial paint, repainted M42 helmet with reproduction liner and reproduction M31 chinstrap.

What do you think? Is this an authentic shell?

I know you guys don't like repaints in general, but it was in my price-range, and I'll probably throw some decals on it and fake-age them. Sometime in the future I'll be able to get a non-repaint.

So is the shell a fake or not? Can you tell from the photos?

It could be real...does it have any size number/maker marings or a lot number? Look inside the skirt on the side and/or the rear.

This is gross..
Oh by the way, the shell is a Made in China new one...M-42 skirt is not flared out as far as original TR ones.

Take this and run over it with a bulldozer

It says cKL92 (I think), can't get a good picture of it. The new paint filled it in somewhat. I looked on a helmet website and cKL92 was not listed. Hmm.

Update: It says cKL62 and then has a number underneath it that is hard to make out. I had to get it wet to be able to get a photo that shows it.

BTW when steel is made in China, by Chinese law it must be stamped "made in China" somewhere (unless it is a steel girder or beam or other industrial product).

I don't listen much to ppl with almost no posts who only post negative things.
Don't get me wrong, I would rather have a non-repaint, but sometimes impulse buys occur. The shell being real is a big relief. I'm going to fake age it (don't worry I'm not going to sell it), here's a photo - a work in progress.

I know the sandpaper looks fake, maybe some steel wool? Rustoleum maybe?

Here's a question...a website I went to said that Heer helmets only had a single Heer decal on the left side (no shield). Is that right? I've seen several helmets on here that have (what I thought was typical) Heer decal on the left side, and shield decal on the right.

M42 helmets only had one decal m35 were double decal and a few M40's were double decal but by that time an order had arrived to remove the tricolour . So there are no Army double decal M42 helmets . Rob
