Gentleman
It is offered to me by a European Dealer/collector.
The links look to be cast not stamped by the SS mark on the rear, originals were stamped correct? Other than cast vs stamped I need your expert opinions of originality.
thanks
mike

It is a reproduction of a type one chain.

Mike,

Where are you getting all this crap? Everything you have shown is fake or part fake.

Hope you can answer,

Dave
First of all I don't have any of these, it is all offered for sale thru different collector/dealers, internet or otherwise. I am posting it before I might buy it as to get a reading as to their originality all or part. That's a plus of this forun to have it checked out before you buy,"correct" or is there another purpose of this forum?
Even with the varied opinions and critiques it has helped me so far and I have picked up some education.
I am trying to find a SS chained at a "reasonable price" for my collection, it does not need to be mint, any ideas?
Buy the way you don't need to be quite so condescending just because I am not one of the old time forum members or old time dagger collectors and very new at this dagger thing, you might keep in mind if there are not new collectors coming into this that somewhere down the road the supply will out- weight the demand and we know what that means.
Perhaps you should start collecting Civil War stuff or German medals and see what you come up with original VS copies.
Best to you anyway
michael

"42", I think Dave is not being condescending he is being concerned about you being taken advantage of by a disreputable dealer. As for a chained SS, try Lakeside trader he has some nice guaranteed original ones. Good Luck

Strikes me these loose chains with out scabbard fittings attatched will invariably be bogus. Surely the field upgrade story can only be given credence if the chain has upper and lower scabbard fittings already attached so Herman just has to undue four screws take off the upper and lower scabbard fittings on his M33 and slip on the chain assembly and replace the lower scabbard fitting job done

the chains we see loose invariably don't have the link that needs to be brazed to the upper scabbard fitting after removing the ring and fixing from the original M33 scabbard fitting

For these reason I believe the field upgrade story is yet another myth that has been stated so often it has become fact go figure
