The proof mark on the left side receiver is not a Erfurt proof. Can you post more pictures of the toggle train and top of chamber? The serial nummber on the capture paper is 4382 I see differnt numbers through out the pistol the most noteable is the two digit number on the frame under the barrel which should be 4382. The only serial number I see that matches the capture paper number is the WWII era magazine. If this Luger was a 100% Erfurt it should also have strawed parts on the safety, trigger, and take down lever.

I beileve it's a Nazi rework too after looking at more pictures. The capture paper serial number should be 80 not 4382 which makes me wonder if the capture paper was to an original all matching WWII Luger and all you got left is the capture paper and magazine.

This was bought out of state and the FFL dealer said he has seen a few with papers like this matching the magazine alone. His theory was pretty much that mostly all pistols with the exclusion of semi auto's had the serial number on the bottom of the butt frame so this was a common mistake.
The Vet's heir said it was brought back this way and has been sitting on a closet shelf since forever. The PFC named on the paper is where this came from, and he has recently passed away.
Thanks for your info.

Just using common sense here. You have some army clerk who is filling out forms. I doubt if he has a clue as to which number is a serial number on this gun and here on the bottom is a nice 4 digit number. I think you have a great buy and there is no doubt in my mind this is the gun that was sent back. No offense, but who would seperate the magazine and document from the original pistol. There is no reason, especially to match it up with a reworked pistol. This is a great piece of history.
Thank you for sharing.
