Hello All, I recently scored these postcards from Craig's auction. Although I did'nt win every one I bid on, I did win these seven. I thought they would look neat displayed with corresponding badge/medal. The Iron Cross II even has a Hitler stamp! Regards, Leipzig

Postcards are nice additions to a collection. Here are some Polizei postcards. They do make nice additions to a display of awards or uniforms.

Yes, the motorcycle pic is part of a set of police uniform postcards by Knotel. These are postcard size renditions of his large folio of around 13 color plates that he produced.

There are a couple of other series of police postcards represented in the array. There was a wartime series of black & white Waffen-SS cards that also had active unit police subjects and a series of Police Day color cards. The Police Day cards and First Day of Issue covers also had various cancellations that are actively collected in Germany by stamp collectors. Of course ther are also Police perfins and stamps that are found either separately or on cards or covers. Quite an array of postal stuff to collect.

Of course, I started out collecting world stamps as a kid so I come by this interest naturally.

goldfasan,

May I ask the story on the leaping stallion with the SS rider? Is it more contemporary of from the period and where did you get it from?

Thanks much and best regards,

The rider is period III Reich the maker is "Katzenhutte" - aquired a number of years ago in germany from a German collector friend.

George, don't forget the additional seven Knotel created for the postcard series that weren't in the large folio that made a total of twenty postcards. These seven included Teno, Feuerwehr, Grenzpolizei, Fuhrerschule der SIPO, and lab and field work of the Gestapo.

Right you are Joe! Knotel also made these postcards for the separate series. Here is the Feuerwehr postcard that you show in the back of your display.

Along with the postcard is the tunic of the FFW NCO shown on the right. This has a slightly different kind of wide working Feuerwehr equipment belt made in woven cloth instead of the leather style shown in the postcard. I suspect that some Firemen liked this belt since it would dry better than the leather over time.

And, here is a later war variation of the Officer tunic on the left in the postcard. This one has the same color and cut as this early uniform but is for an Officer of the Werkschutz Feuerwehr. It does not have the piping on the collar & cuffs and the collar tabs are the later style for Werkfeuerwehr Officers. This tunic did not come with a bullion sleeve eagle but may well have had one during time of use. Interestingly, it did come with an early 1945 railroad pass for the owner that I found in the pocket when it came out of Germany. Always check the pocket lint for interesting goodies.

Great stuff Orpo.
Thanks for sharing these uniforms with postcards.
Makes it all the more interesting imo.

You guys have done a good job on this thread, a great mix of interesting things to see. I really enjoyed seeing the Knötel postcard illustrations, haven't seen those beauties before.

Thanks for putting it all together.

Best!
