Alte Messer,
Very nice Couteau de chasse and thanks for showing it. Would like to see please the one you use as your Avatar or any others that you have in your collection as well. I'm an amateur as well and like you I really like this stuff. Their are a few here that I consider expert and are very good at recognizing the different styles and age and can probably help you out more than I. But I agree It looks French, not only the French style of the poignee or grip that gives it away but also the crochet and bouton or carrying hook and end cap on the scabbard. I've seen this style of grip and crossguard on a French hunting dagger before many years ago and should have purchased it. Thank you.

Thank you for the reply, Mike. I have been meaning to start a thread showcasing the sword in my avatar for quite some time. Hopefully this coming week I'll get a thread started along with some other pieces from my collection. Happy Hunting!

K, Yes, please post if you get some spare time ... I'm sure it'll be a big hit with our members who enjoy top-shelf hunting and forestry weapons. Best! Bill
