Hello all,
An unmarked Voos perhaps? Looks like the grip wire came undone at some point or is this seen on some period dagger handles?

Yes, a strand of grip wire is missing. The existing strand appears to have been "re-worked" as well, see how the twist becomes loose toward bottom. Also, the furrel is twisted by 90 degrees.
Then the finish on the dagger appears odd. The scabbard finish seems to be of an odd color and almost perfect, except what look like scratch marks from the suspension rings being slid over the surface
The etch also seems a little odd, but I dont know these well enough to comment.
In any case, I would say that this dagger is at best a "restored" piece, at worst a parts piece
Just my thoughts.
Good hunting, Johnny

Hello again, I would like to defend my dagger and say that if the handle wasn't original to the dagger it was changed in the 1940's as this was a Veteran acquired lot and has never been in a collector's hands prior to me obtaining the lot. The Veteran that brought back the pieces did not alter anything else, so why would he mess with a grip on a Luftwaffe dagger? Here's the Custom's Official dagger that was reviewed on this forum: http://phpstack-500133-1583587.cloudwaysapps.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=268413William Kramer

The wire probably broke and was re-wrapped to look as it does now. The etch is a Voos-type, alright. I think it's "good," but the etch is a little ragged looking on the edge beneath the eagle. Very few, if any of these are absolutely perfect, though.

IMO while your grip has been removed and replaced (probably to remove the broken wire)I don't think it is a parts dagger. Thank you for posting. I don't necessarily believe it is a replacement grip. Voos marked pieces will usually be ivory, absent/sans the trademark usually has a trolon/plastic grip. The Voos Company did not produce their own parts, but opted instead to purchase them from other manufacturers and finish them in-house. In theory, grips could have come from numerous sources and be of different makers/colors, correct? My logic and reasoning is that everything the Veteran brought back was "right as rain" with the exception of the wire on this grip. Ok, we know something happened to the wire on the grip, but to say it is an entire replacement just doesn't make sense to me. If it were a restored or parts dagger, I would think the wire in the grip would have been dealt with. All of these daggers have generic fittings just like mine and a unique grip. The wire on this handle is not correct and a strand is missing, the other has been stretched it appears. The orange grip that came with this dagger fits perfectly and is mated to everything else. When I first photographed the dagger the grip and ferrel were sideways but I have since tried to straighten them out and have new images. In the "haul" photo, that is exactly how it came back from the Veteran.
The etch also seems a little odd, but I dont know these well enough to comment.
Just my thoughts.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that the grip had been replaced with another grip, just removed to repair a problem with the wire then replaced.

I'm no expert but to me the etch looks like a good one.
