I have removed a topic which I judged to be an attempt to sell without buying a Premium Membership. Or, Maybe, it just to insult others.

I will buy a premium membership. I find it funny that because I question the validity of consignment in the industry the topic is removed. I do not think there was any attempt to insult anyone, just cold hard questions about the way business is conducted by the old guard. Did I ruffle the feathers of those that run the inner circle? I could have mentioned names of those that have been involved in my dealings but chose not to do so. I did not mention names because I felt it would be inappropriate.

Big,

The topic was removed because I judged you were trying to sell without a premium membership. Nothing more.

And, I felt your reference to one of the larger dealers as "over thirty and overweight" to be a pointed personal insult. Please avoid this in the future.

Dave

I do not believe I singled any dealer out individually at all. I made a simple statement that I feel is hidden from the forum because it raises the questions of what happens if anyone (overweight or not) drops dead when their items are consigned. I have been in the real business world for 25 years and believe my points are valid. As I have seen these issues arrive in a similiar business. If someone or yourself took offense I believe they should get a little tougher hide, especially with current world events. I think you should reinstate the thread and let the forum decide whether it should be pulled because it is offensive or not. I did not know that the Militaria dealers of the world have drank from the fountain of youth, thus my questions, concerns are valid to the collecting community. (which is what this is supposed to be about)

"over thirty and overweight"
Dam,,,thats just about all of us now! grin wink

Some things maybe new [and old] members might forget... ALL the military collecting forums are privately owned. It IS their way or the highway..

Go ahead pay your money to post photos on the 'other' site[s] and get a little crazy,,,and you'll be banned so fast it'll make your head spin..
Insult one of their 'sponsers', question a moderator, go against one of the old experts, and you'll have a very short membership on these other sites....... tired sleep.....

He who pays the piper, calls the tune.

It takes a lot of time and a fair bit of money to keep a web site up and current and safe and relevant.

Why wouldn't the guy who makes the investment set the rules?

Anyone can feel free to set up their own site.. how has that gone over in the past?

I don't like super sensitivity either, but, like that snap of rubber gloves at airport security, I put up with it to get where I want to go.

John

There has to be some moderation on a site. Sometimes some people can be deliberately provocative and at others a simple error of judgement may lead to a post that is inappropriate in a forum, even if not intended to be. Being a forum moderator is not an easy job & really to be honest it is pretty thankless from what I see.

Dave has frequently been criticised for his role here on GDC but seldom is it appreciated just how much of his time is dedicated to running it. I don`t think many would be prepared to fill that position, make such a committment or do such a good job of it. You can`t please all of the people all of the time and I think Dave has a pretty even hand. Perhaps a little thought for how your comments may be received would be in order. Mod`s are people too! A little appreciation might be deseved.
