Anyone is an expert on UK navy blades?
There were so many version of those...

Would like to hear any comments on this one - 58.5cm long overall with a 44.5cm long blade with etched decoration including an anchor and the royal cypher of King Edward VII dating this dirk to 1902 – 1910

Signed on the ricasso ‘J. Gieves & Sons, Portsmouth’

Shagreen rayskin grip with brass wire binding

Lions head pommel with ring in mouth

The top brass section on scabbardis engraved with the owners initials ‘E.C.D’?

Hi Mike,

I am no expert but I have one I believe is a little older than yours, late Victorian. They were all probably made in Shefield and have the name of the retailer engraved on the ricasso. Mine has the name Hobson & Sons on it.

Sorry for the crappy pic.

Hi,
Please see one similar piece from my collection.
It is significant the letters (initials?) on upper scabbard part is D.E.C – exactly opposite than on yours.
So, the questions should be are those letters initial of the owners or something else?

Here is mine by Maker, J.R. Gaunt and Son, Limited, Late Edward Thurkle, London & Birmingham. Looks like the Kings crown. I have an earlier Scottish Dirk by Thurkle.
