I acquired this Bavarian sword recently. The things that drew me to it was the high level of detail on the handle bits as well as the silver plating. The sword was made by Eickhorn sometime in the post WWI era. Is it an infantry ,cavalry or artillery pattern? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Len

Len...That's a beauty. Its a Bavarian Deluxe M89 Degen, with the Bavarian motto, 'In Treue Fest', and is idential to the one in johnson's Imperial Edged Weapons book, p. 241-242.
You must keep your eyes opoen for a matching knot - silver with blue stripes.

Len, The sword is listed in the prewar catalog as a Bavarian high grade/embellished (straight bladed) model sword for multiple service branches (if my German is not too far off). So is it the TM/logo that makes it post WW I?

Nice sword smile smile Best Regards, Fred

I think for this period sword the Eickhorn logo should be back to back squirrels.

Yes Fred it's the logo that marks it as post WWI. It consists of a single encircled squirrel with "Carl Eickhorn Solingen".

The double oval serrated tail maker mark dates this into the early to mid 30's.

The sword is the model 170 in the 1933 Eickhorn catalog. The 1908 Musterbuch der Waffenfabrik Carl Eickhon has the following caption:"Bayerischer Offizier-Pallasch mit fein ziselierter Montur fur alle Truppengattungen" My German is crude at best, but a loose translation would be "Bavarian Officer's straight bladed sword with high detailed chiseled fittings for all branches of service" (somebody who is fluent in German can do better than I can with this) Usually found with gold finish, but silver turns up occasionally. That model, in gold, was the first Eickhorn sword I ever owned, and is one of my favorites, due to the great detail. Would like to have the silver version someday! It's a great sword!
