Hello all,
Here's a picture of a new item I picked up lately. It is a large DAF flag 12ft wide and at least 21 ft long and it has been shortened. It is double sided. The DAF insignia is made up of separate pieces and measures approx. 7 ft wide. I have been led to understand that while it could have been flown from a flagpole it most likely was flown on top of a building. There is no white outline around the DAF insignia and someone said that this would indicate this is an early flag from 1933/ 1934. Any other information that can be added would be appreciated and if anyone has pictures of a flag like this in use I'd appreciate seeing them.
Thanks
Duzig(Bill)

Hello,
Phil, thanks for the compliments, it's appreciated. The flag is actually rolled up for now. I opened it to take pictures of it and at some point I'd like to roll it up using those acid free rolls,and muslin cloth etc but that can get a little expensive from what I understand. For now it will have to stay rolled up and on a bed. Doug, yes I would imagine you'd need a big kit bag to fit this one in LOL. Thanks again for the comments and compliments.

Bill. This is a beautiful you have. I was wondering how long it was before it was shortened? Have you ever seen a small banner with the cog wheel printed? I seen one for sale like that but everyone I have seen is multipiece.

Hello SS man, thanks for the compliment on my flag. I do believe I have seen some with printed cog wheels but I do believe that most I have seen are multipiece. I really have no idea how long it was to begin with. I wonder if someone knows if there was certain standard sizes used for various flags back then? Thanks again for your comments

Bill. I know there were standards for kreigs and battle flags so maybe these had standards to? You are very welcome for the comment on the flag because it deserves it.

Hello again
SSman, I had the same idea in mind about specific sizes so hopefully someone who reads this thread will have the answer to that. Thanks again and right back at ya regarding your flag also. I have had a few flags in the past and tended to be more interested in other 3rd reich items but lately I find my interests drawn towards flags so was pleased to obtain this one and an 11 ft Party flag just lately. Thanks again

A banner of that size would more than likely have been on the outside of a (multi floor) gov't building that was used by the DAF

It's a bit too big for a festival banner.

Wow that's impressive. Going by the std ratios that would have been 20' wide!!
Here's a quick conversion guide for standard flag sizes:

Size in cm & Conversion to inches
50x85 = 19x33
80x135 = 31x53
100x170 = 39x66
150x250 = 59x98
200x335 = 78x132
300x500 = 118x196
400x670 = 157x263
450x750 = 177x295

Hello,
Doug and Paul. Thanks for your responses. Paul the width of my flag is 12 ft wide, only the length has been shortened. By the way thanks for that handy conversion guide you posted here!

That is a very nice flag - I am one of those who does go for the larger sized items , at present I am waiting for a large Hitler Youth banner to arrive ( 30 x 6 ft approx.)
Storage is the main problem I "roll my own" and when the UK weather allows take them out to air them .
Thank you for showing this very desirable flag .
Regards
js

Hello,
JS, thanks for your comments. I have a few flags other than this one but I do find myself attracted lately to the larger size flags even though they are harder to display. I would like at some point to take it outside and open it up completely on my lawn or hang if from the roof perhaps and get some pictures of it...but we shall see because I wouldn't particularly want my neighbors to see it LOL. On another forum lately someone just sold a HJ banner around the size you mention,if you are the one who bought it,nice item, and in very good shape. In any case thanks again for your comments.

Hello Duzig , yes it was me who bought that HJ banner , had been looking for and kept missing several which I had seen on line over the past 2 years.
Flags which I had sourced locally poor condition and over priced seemed to be the norm.

Attached some of the larger ones I have the RK's are naval marked 300x500 being the largest down to 100x170.
The State Service is 200x335 as is the Female RAD.

Hello,
Js, very nice display of flags! Other than this DAF flag I have only an 11 ft long party flag and a 15 or 16 ft long party banner with grommets. I do have some other smaller flags but I must say that just the immensity of the larger flags is impressive. Every now and then I do unroll them in my living room and take a look at them. If only we could fly them eh? That HJ flag you bought is quite nice and in beautiful shape it looked like. I saw it for sale and was tempted but at the present time I just could not afford to buy it. I am glad to see that someone who appreciates large flags like that acquired it. Very nice! I am surprised sometimes by the prices some ask for flags that to me look to be in not very good shape or ripped etc. I know they say the larger the flag the less money it will go for, probably true but I'd rather buy a large flag even though it's harder to display than pay more money for something which is in worse shape. Again very nice flags you have there and thanks for showing them. By the way, nice dog there, is that a water spaniel or part spaniel? I used to have a part water spaniel years ago and from what I can see your dog looks something like she did. Is she brown or black colored? In any case nice flags and nice dog!
Bill
