I picked this sword up about three weeks ago and couldn't be more thrilled with it. The scabbard leather is near perfect, no scuffs, no tears, and no cracks. Unfortunately it is missing the sewn on leather hanger but I think the condition of the whole piece makes up for it. The crossguard and pommel retain about 30% to 40% of the original lacquer. It's getting harder by the day finding these early nickle silver Luft swords with any lacqure. This sword was personalized by the original owner, by no means professional but personal. It's these little treasures you find that to me make it all worth while. It's tuff to see but there's four letters scratched in the upper scabbard fitting and on the blade next to the makers mark. I've always loved these early Lufts swords, hope you enjoy the pictures.

Pretty incredible Rich,, I like the pommel enhancing with he oak leaves on the outer rim. Looking at the blade and the upper scabbard fitting the letters looks like it spells " Bolk"..Or Bokk" you have better eyes what does it spell? Amazing to see all the guilting there on the Swaz`s. Killer blade! best Larry

Rich,

Of all the myriad patterns of TR swords the Luftwaffe model has to be one of the most elegant, especially in this excellent condition. It's easy to see why you're 'jazzed' about this fine specimen ... wink

Best!

Based on a classic five (?) century old design the Luftwaffe sword is also my favorite from the TR era. Very nice sword! smile FP

Thanks for the kind words guys, much appreciated.

I also agree, these Luft swords are one of my favorites too.

You don't find too many of these with blades over 30 inches. The average blades are around 27 to 28 inches. I have a David Malsch Steinbach/Thür and this SMF that both have 30.25 inch blades...tall pilots.

Thanks again
Rich

Great looking Sword Rich! The look of that pommel is just killer. I know what you mean about shorter Luft swords, I have one that is right under 26 1/4" !! Wonder how tall that guy was? Kevin.

Great find! You don't see many in this uncleaned, original condition.

Thanks, Grumpy. I've had this for over 40 years. I bought it for £15 the week before I was getting married. Well, my future wife was not best pleased that I had 'wasted' money we needed for the wedding on a 'stupid sword'! Women just don't understand!
