You've all seen the standard 70mm DJ shooting awards usually dated between 1935-1938 but here is an anomoly, I found it last year at a show in Germany, looked at it for quite sometime before I decided to purchase it, never seen the like of it before. It does not have the Ges Gesch seen on the DJ awards and it never had the DJ badge in the middle.

Here it is pictured against a standard silver 1937 hunting exhibition award and a standard 70mm DJ award.

I can only imagine that there were some shooting related contests arranged at the same time as the exhibition, I can see no other reason for the award.

Gary,

Very nice, Your explanation makes a lot of sense.

Here is a silver award I just picked up a few weeks ago.

Nice award

You don't see many with chains at all, very rare to find them like that.

Cheers

To my best knowledge, these bronce, silver and gold DJ badges (beside the special shooting price for an airforce price shooting) have been for hunting trophys. On each hunting exhibition (until today) the best trophys (there have been several classes for certain, different kinds of hunted animals) of a year were/are rewarded with such badges. With the typical small chain they were/are attached eg on an antler.

Gary,

You've had a lot of great stuff up lately and I would've liked to spend more time but, this is a nice rare one! Congrats for hunting this one down, very unique to say the least.

When compared to EK's and such, things like this are much tougher to find. Does anyone else have a similar example they could share with us, something unique with this motif? This is the first '37 Berlin Ausstellung/Luft I've seen ... Houston or Ralph, can you tell us anything about this prize?

Wotan - a perfect explanation of the chained-awards!

Looks like a very good score!

Nice awards. I really like these. Wotan is correct as always, you can still see these type awards hanging on trophy's. There was a lot going on in Berlin in 1937, but in 1937 Berlin celebrated it's 700th anniversary with many festivities, exhibits and competitions of all kinds throughout that year. The Internationale Jagdausstellung 2-21 Nov. was one of many planned events. The shooting competitions more than likely were planned and held at the Wannsee shooting range. I remember the 750th anniversary of Berlin, lots to see and do.

There was also an enamel badge issued for this event. I thought that I had an image of one on file but have been unable to find it (I've never bothered to buy one as it is sans Swaz).

However, one has turned up on WAF for sale this morning http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=600141

Cheers

This just came in amongst some other pieces, am I correct in assuming that it's the same exhibition but with the standard DJ design?

Cheers

Hi Don

Yes that is from the same exhibition, that is a nice medal and very difficult to find. If you ever want to part with it let me know.

Don,

Yes, from the same 1937 international exhibit. The main display featured animal trophies from all over the world, your example would have been for a prize winner from Germany, the host country.

A fine addition to your marvelous collection.

Best!

Thank you for your enthusiasm Gentlemen. I didn't really give it much thought when I opened the package, it wasn't until I read the reverse that I realised that it could be the same event.

Cheers

I recently had the chance to pick these 3 medals up.

Two of these are for Yugoslavia, does anyone here know which other countries were awarded these? I have seen one for Poland.

Thanks
Don

A lovely grouping you have shown. Interesting that the Estland is stamped rather than raised. Possibly they had "blanks" to be used as extras or for unexpected competitors?

Thanks for showing them.
