Picked this up at an auction, but something just doen't look right to me. Plated guard, "IN TREUE FEST" on blade and CE makers mark with twin squirrels. I cant find any pictures online of a similar sword, close but the guards don't have the extra two metal wraps going around the hand.
Any thoughts?
Chris

Going by Angolias book Swords of Germany 1900-1945,it could be either a Bavarian artillery officers basket hilt sword or Bavarian supply train sword. From my makers mark book, the Eickhorn double squirrel mark was granted in 1906,could not say if the sword is a replica or not.

Absolutely a good imperial Bavarian sword by Eickhorn. No replica here.

Absolutely a good imperial Bavarian sword by Eickhorn. No replica here. A good call on this one, it looks like the version for an enlisted man's dress saber for a (horse drawn/wagon) supply train for off duty wear. FP

Thanks for the input, I can see that there are some books I need to get to educate myself on all the different configurations of German swords. Well I'm half way there finding this great site. Thanks again. Chris

The Eickhorn and WKC Imperial catalog reprints are available at very reasonable prices, $25-30, both are great references and well worth the money. Imperial swords are being reproduced, in Solingen, but have no reason to believe your is not 100% original. Joe S
