I have a chance to buy a diplomat dagger complete with portepee and hangers but I have a question about the hangers.
The pix I've seen have all shown the top of the hangers fitting to be a snap type compared to the one offered for sale that has an open rectangular-shaped box fitting. Has anyone seen such a fitting on a genuine diplo. hanger?

Diplo/GO hangers of the "textbook" type have the clip at the top. Any with a "box" top fitting would be IMO a special order or a replacement that has been made at some time. Special examination would be necessary to try to determine just how professional the sewing and attachment was accomplished. A black light exam of the thread used might also be revealing.
