Can I see closeups of the TMs (Eickhorns). And the 3 35-41 seated squirrels are a long, a short and a what.

This is my kinda thread. Definitely no comparison, the early Eickhorn fire bayonets were some of the best made bayonets during the 3R. I've got dozens of makers & can match them up side by side but the early Eicks are just heavy, well put together & stand the test of time.
Now if I can just find a decent over the shoulder fire bayonet,...

Paul:
Nice bayos!
I have the double oval with asterisk TM on long and short and the 35-41 in long and short and the 42 over shoulder in long.
I have the sawback with double oval asterisk in short and the 35-41 mark in long and short.
Since the regular KS98s come with all kinds of versions of the double oaval TM, as well as versions of the single oval and a triple oval, I would expect that we should be able to find fire bayos with these variations as well (not to mention with and without C.E. under the squirrel).
As Billy says, they are hefty weapons indeed.

Very nice collection of FW's. I have a half dozen or so here, and it's hard to pick a favorite. I even have one here that's been de-Eick-ified . But I had my eye on that artillery Luger of yours. That's on my list when I stumble into one. I do more of the Heer type, but I don't mind adding a new FW to my collection. It's getting harder to do that now a days. Terry, Billy and Denny have cornered the market on those, and they made alot of them . All fun aside, thanks for showing. Maybe I need a new one while there's a few left out there. Steve.

I have only a couple Eickhorn Firemans bayonets, but both are double marked. One is a Linnenbrugger & Ellermann and the other is a Johann Kirch Magdeburg. I only started collecting Fireman bayonets about 11 years ago.

Terry, I think I have a couple of Fire marked bayonets here that are distributor marked as well. I'll have to look, I don't remember. I know I have a number of those in the Heer type. I haven't kept track lately. Some of my things are put away at the moment. My display case is half done. When I finish I'll bring up my old post and add to it. I need to start keeping better records like you do. You never know when a family member needs to have that. Steve.

Thanks Paul,
Another interesting tidbit on this dual marked bayonet is the frog is also marked to the distributor, another nice & difficult to find touch. This distributor also made fire tunics as well as fire helmet liners. I managed to pick an L&E marked fire commander's helmet in silver last year, after years of looking.
Alas this one is no longer in my stable but will be picked up by a fine forum member at the SOS. I do have several that I've kept for myself but this one was quite mint & a rare bird bringing anywhere from $700-$850 from dealers.

Here's a logo shot of one of my special Feuerwehr sawbacks, this one a single oval short model. Based on the timeline of Eickhorn's maker marks, I would estimate this piece to be one of the first produced edged weapons of the 3R. You can also see the early pattern bakelite on the grip plates.

Here's a shot of the short single oval next to a short double oval sawback, note that they had already switched to the later bakelite pattern by the time the double oval '33-'34 sawback was manufactured.
These early produced Eickhorns are some of the best constructed & well made bayonets I've ever come across. I can see why John Z. loves Eick's products!

Here is the double marked long fire bayonet that I picked up at the SOS. It came from BillyG indirectly to me at the show.
The double marking refers to the L+E TM on the obverse and the Eickhorn seated squirrel 35-41 mark on the reverse. BTW, it also has a n L+E marked frog.
Enjoy,
John

John & Terry,
Great L&E examples guys! The addition of a marked frog is always a pleasing sight to a guy like me. This reminds me, I've got to snap a picture with my L&E marked silver FW helm with a few other L&E items. That is while I still have a few brain cells left.
