I don't really like the looks of the etching on this axe.
While I am not very knowledgeable about these fire axes, I think the etch is shallow and cartoonish.
Here are a few shots of mine for comparison.

It's tough to tell from pictures however the first axe looks to be hand engraved as you can see a few slips on the edges. Yours John on the other hand looks more like a true etch. For lack of better word the etch will make it look a "relief carving".

all I can say it is a hanger for Czech pre ww2 army and official sword.I cant say about the axe.Ted

Im with John on this one I don't lile the etch at all.I have 13 Fire axes 10 have etch heads and 3 are plane.2 of them look almost like the first picture.paul
