Hi all,

This 1st model Luftwaffe dagger (Heller) is offered to me. What are your opinions? Is this an original dagger?

Thanks!!

The clasp looks wrong.
Either the parts are miss matched, or this is a zinc based model where 100% of the plating has been removed from the crossguard.

Just what I noticed.
the experts can tell much more. There are good examples out there. I do not think this is one.

Hi Remco,
I agree with Jim, the clasp should have separate loops where the chains attach.

Hi all,

Thanks for your quick replies!

So the clasp is wrong, but is the dagger itself original?

It looks to me that the scabbard and dagger do not belong together. Based on the pics it is hard to say but hopefully you have passed on this turd already.

Due to what I can see from these not very good pics it looks like a combination of different, perhaps period, parts of different daggers.
The grip fittings seem to be pot metal. The scabbard fittings seem to be aluminium. The chain clip is totally wrong (as already stated and shown by other members)
Normally the plated pot metal grip parts (if original) are combined with iron scabbard fittings.
Normally aluminium scabbard parts are combined with aluminium grip parts.
Nobody can tell for sure when this certain combination, as shown, was done. Most likely it was done postwar. But imo each seperate part could be an original one (even the clip although its not the one from the dagger but more a shoulder strap clip).
Also imo nothing for any serious collector.
