These are tough daggers to tell if original. Is the ball on the bottom of the scabbard magnetic?.If it is it's real. This is a guess but I am going to say it's a reproduction that was aged.I will reseach it and see if my opinion stays the same.I might be very well wrong because that patinia is hard to fake.My opinion is based on the motto and trademark having some much blue in them after being exposed to water.Good luck

The tang mark, crossguards & crossguard marking for Schulpforta look OK to me. Scabbard paint looks off but that may be the lighting or maybe it's a repaint.

Is the underside of the frog lug numbered? Is the ball magnetic or not?

The School markings are correct, as is the tang shape and marking. I can't tell if the grip has been replaced, as the pictures are not good. Likewise, the scabbard would need more info.

If the ball is brass, the scabbard is a reproduction. However, the ball being magnetic does not mean it's real, as there is a restorer who will take a donor SA scabbard shell, and SA throat with runners, and a bayonet scabbard, to create an NPEA scabbard. He uses the steel ball from the bayonet scabbard and welds it onto the SA scabbard. He uses the lug from the bayonet scabbard, grinds it smaller, and stamps the number on the underside and mounts it to the SA shell.

I am worried! The scabbard shape is wrong and the throat is definately bad. The upper crossguard is not correct IMO and the blade looks suspect to me.

Would definitely have my doubts about this piece as it appears to be artificially aged!

So, I think the lower cross guard is good, the tang looks good, but it may be an SA blade polished off and NPEA motto and maker mark applied? I agree, the overall look is that of an artificially aged dagger. I compared the school stamping to 4 others I have on file, and it looks correct down to the shape of the h and the square period.

I can just about make out a horseshoe S marking inside the bottom crossguard in the photos. I believe the knife is original, but I think the scabbard is bogus.
