I thought I would post some pictures of my most recent find. Here is a Glider Pilots Dagger as it does not have the NSFK winged man stamp on the throat of the scabbard. This dagger was adopted in 1934. The handle and scabbard are covered in dark blue leather to match the DLV uniform. This dagger is maker marked "JMB" Josef Munch Brotterode and adorned with the nickel silver fittings.

Nice example by a seldom seen maker. You've posted some nice blades in the last few months, well done.

Pitbull,
Nice dagger!

You stated that it does not have the "Icarus" stamp, but in the last pic. it does appear to have the later DLV (winged propeller) stamp on the throat. Is this correct?

Is the crossguard "K" stamped?

Any other markings?

These are great daggers for the stamps. Oftentimes you can find them with unit or school numbers as well.

I got a "bug" a while ago and did some research into these knives, it was very interesting. Most collectors believe that these are "all the same", but there are a staggering number of little maker variations such as:

Different size crossguard swazes.
Different blade (and overall) lengths.
Different hanger construction (some are just leather, others are steel lined inside so that they do not bend and the leather lasts longer).
Differences in fittings, especially the 2 "accent lines" on the upper and lower fittings, etc. etc.

Anyway, nice knife!

Good hunting,
Johnny

Johnny,
Yes it does have the winged propeller on the throat and also the "k" on the crossguard. I have an Eickhorn with the winged man with swastika, with Schl stamped under the one side of the crossguard and 318 on the other side, also marked with a "K".

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I was under the assumption the winged propeller was a DLV Dagger and the winged man was a NSFK.

Thanks
Rich

Rich,

Your right, DLV is the winged propeller, NSFK is the Icarus stamp. No difference in the daggers, just a different stamp.

If you have an early Eickhorn (squirrel in oval mark) you may notice that the swaz. on the Eickhorn is what I call the "thin legged" version. The legs of the crossguard swaz are significantly thinner than that of other makers. This appears to be an Eickhorn variation, apparently they made their own parts.

Anyway, nice dagger.
Enjoy!

Johnny
