That stamping looks suspect to me. I've never seen a 19/34, and the stamp isn't very precise. My opinion is repro using old leather....

I've looked at this several times now and I am not sure it is a fake. The design, rivets, buckle, stitching, etc, look right. The stamp is not precise, but whole hanger is in its last throes. Which brings me to my main thought: Why waste correct period fittings, and spend a lot of time duplicating rivets, stitching, etc, on such deteriorated leather?

As to the stampings, I looked through all my hangers and stamping vary considerably. From barely legible to very firm.

Hmm, I do like the cross strap. The leather cracks of the coffin part of the hanger seem to be in unusual places, like below the clip on the straight part. I've played with old leather trying to make a decent repro hangers, and it tends to cracks in weird places. Have you seen this particular stamping before? Of course, in hand inspection would help.

I've not seen that number that I recall, but there were at least 48 manufacturers who took out RZM codes as I have a 48. Leather cracks would depend on storage and the thing could have been jammed in the corner of an old box. It was obviously not stored well. I still don't see any obvious danger signs.

Thanks for an interesting discussion, cracks in the skin appear due to the fact that the previous owner kept the dagger on the hanger on the wall so the old skin was covered with cracks. The skin on the hanger, very fragile, it is sure to be snapped around the rivets along the seam, and if it were sewn today.
