i'm planning on purchasing this dagger, and was hoping I could get some opinions...All seems well to me,but I don't have the experience of others on here, and this is a HUGE purchase for me.I trust the person I'm dealing with,we talked for a while, and I get a good feeling from him.it comes with an no strings inspection period.I noticed the runes don't match the hammefahr runes in dave's challenge, but I suppose that's the point, right??I did find numerous other Hammmesfahr ss w/the same runes as the dagger in question. Th eagle I cannot tell. Any opinions/advice greatly appreciated,I'm taking a big step here...I wanna play with the big boys...[lol]]] Thank you,Lenny

Many thanks, the opinions here mean alot.I will soon be the new caretaker of this dagger...Those were the pics forwarded to me,I will post some better pics in a few days.Any ideas about dealing with runner marks??I'm not one to mess with things, and certainly have no intention of doing anything to this blade for a while. It'd be good to know what options people use...It seems a good bit of the ss/sa daggers have runner marks,I assume the blade thickness is part of the problem???

From what I can see, that is NOT a Hammesfahr etch! Check out the bottom of the "h" in Ehre and heist...

Here are some photos of a real Hammesfahr etch. Look how the letter "h" appears at the bottom left compared to the dagger you posted.

Looks to me like the blade you posted could have been laser etched, including the maker mark.

Well,I had some doubts about the runes[based on daves runes challenge, but I searched the net,and found plenty of other hamesfahrs with the runes like mine, which was the point of the challenge,i believe]I'd definatly like to hear more opinions, and perhaps I or someone can find a Hammesfahr with an etching like the one I posted??

Dave and Gottlieb, thank you for your time and support,I cannot lie,I was somewhat apprehensive ,but I have faith in my source, and in the folks here.I've been collecting long enough to realize very little is "textbook".Gottlieb, your post was just what I was hoping[and figuring]would pop up .The learning process is a big part of what I enjoy, but I sure could go w/o the stresses involved sometimes. As I said in an earlier post, confirmation of a "good"piece from this site really is invaluable to peace of mind...Leonard[I will post more pics asap when I receive the dagger.]

I don't stop by here much any longer, so I missed the thread on multiple Hammesfahr etchings. However, I do know that Hammesfahrs have been laser etched. They are very good copies... so good that the maker mark is a little too perfect. From the photo provided it looks to me like one of those. For what it's worth, everything else about the dagger looks OK. The grip is the classic Hammesfahr shape.
Dave... I did own the dagger I posted. It is a ground Rohm.

I do not have blade etch pictures systematically taken or organized as I do eagles and runes, but I am of the same opinion: Etch templates were suppliers item and varied in small detail over time. No one etch is exclusive to any dagger maker.

1st pattern like skyline's with a "closed" M of Meine and T of Treue
2nd pattern owned by JR with a "open" M and T
3rd pattern like the one below: with a "closed" M and a "open" T
the "open" and "closed" are only my descriptions.

As I previously stated, there are fake Hammesfahr blades with laser etchings. These are probably Czech or Polish origin.
