I have to say that I miss the typical white stripes on the hangers that are normal on a Luftwaffe hanger. JMHO. Danny

Imo these (first) shown hangers are DDR hangers or at least typical DDR hardware hybrides. For sure no period IIIR luft hangers. Regards,

Gentlemens, Thank you for your clarification, I myself would not have thought of a DDR hanger. It is true that manufacturing is almost similar Thank you again Jul

Ok, so luftwaffe hangers would always be bluish-gray color with white stripes. Are the fittings all zinc, or can they be steel or aluminum sometimes like I've seen in some descriptions? Also some people claim there is some gold gilt on the fittings, were they gilded originally?

@ spacey, the material for the fitting do vary. Zinc alloy and leightweight (aluminium) alloy are possible, iron might be used for the attachment of the upper fitting (clip) to the straps but also zinc alloy is used for this certain connection fitting. Also a mixture of components (eg. upper fitting and clasp aluminium, lower clips zinc alloy) is possible for one and the same hanger. There is a certain type of hangers (with RZM mark in the reverse of the upper clip and outside oak leaf embelishment) which come with gilded appearance. This appearance vary from nealy disappeared to a dull brown up to a high and deep gold. To my best knowledge nobody knows why they came/come this way but they are absolutely period and are NO general officers hangers. Regards,

I agree that the hangers shown are East German. I think the golden appearance of some of the Luftwaffe hanger fittings are because they received a copper wash before the final gunmetal finish and that is what is showing through.

Ok, I posted my new hanger pics in a new topic. It doesn't look like gold though on this one, the color is too dark. The copper idea sounds more likely for mine. So I take it that "general officer's hangers" do not have the (copper?) coloring?
