This is probably where I can find out about my Police bayonet. All I know is its in excellent condition and the portepee is mint. Someone told me it is rural police because of the brown frog and scabbard. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

Regards,
Harry

Harry,

Your police bayonet looks like a private purchase item made after 1941, based on the "over the shoulder" Eickhorn maker mark. This mark is pretty scarce on police bayonets in general. The brown scabbard &frog would indicate the bayonet was for rural use which is a nice scarce thing too & it's a slotted hilt variety too. I figure this piece was 3R production with an aluminum hilt too. Very nice piece overall, congrats.

Very nice. You sure don't see these late marked items very often.

It is interesting to see that Eickhorn used this version of its TM (the over shoulder squirrel and no 'Original') on dress and police bayonets, whereas the TM on daggers has the word 'Original' above "Eickhorn'.

Harry:

Police bayonets, on dealer sites, go for about $700-900, depending on condition.

See here:

The condition is what determines value. Some collectors will pay a premium of 10-30% over this for items of unique interest, like TMs or unit dedications, etc.

I would be looking at paying something on the order of $1,000 if pictures bear out the condition.
