Hello guys! thougt I share this one with you, As some of you know, I picked up a SS dagger last year from a guy that was rebuilding a old german house, here is the link. http://phpstack-500133-1583587.cloudwaysapps.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=231174Now I found a SA-dagger! never in a collection, it has not seen daylight since the war, I normally don�t collect "SA" but i thought it would be fun to have two SALTY ones, I have small weakness to heavy patinated daggers  Now I just have to pay the fellow for the dagger, What would be a fair price for such a piece in this condition? It's always amazing how great those blade can look after 70 years of just resting inside the scabbard. Could share the secret in which town or area the dagger was found?

It's always amazing how great those blade can look after 70 years of just resting inside the scabbard. Could share the secret in which town or area the dagger was found? Danzig my friend

Danzig my friend Cool I grabbed once v.Brosy Steinberg with OST marked crossguard, coming also from the "tri-town" area, but mine was a not half as nice as yours.

Zoza, very nice dagger and the decision is yours,,,this dagger is in a position to where it can be cleaned up and it looks some of the earthen look can be cleaned...OR!!!....You can leave it alone,,, the blade is in most excellent condition. Great find in that old house!! ........Maybe more??? regards Larry

I would say $350 low $500 high for such a nice relic.

I'd say easy $500. European market is different. BTW. I've seen worse daggers selling for more than $500 here or at WAF, let alone ebay and parts prices there...
Calling it a relic??? C'mon, the only part with problems (that can be fixed in great degree) is a scabbard shell, blade is beautiful, grip has no issues, all the nickel silver parts are just dirty or heavy patinated and can be brought back to a shiney look.

Friedrich Herder made wonderful blades!
This is also the perfect example that should convince collectors to store the daggers in the scabbard: there is no better protection for the blade!

"relic" to me doesn't have negative connotations, and doesn't imply ground dug or anything like that.
There can be no doubt of irreversible corrosion and contamination on the fittings and scabbard, hence my use of the term.
Within the bounds of TR collecting however, I will grant your point, as "relic condition" is typically used to describe something far more deteriorated than this one.
I wouldn't go on any buffing spree with this one. It is what it is, and any attempts to reverse its unique aging process are bound to be transparent.

Since zoza passed on it I ended up buing it. It is a second mint blade Herter in my collection so rest assured the patina is there to stay!

I dont agree ..i have the same on my ss dagger scabbard. Some rost removal and its all good, nothing happens.

In regards to the scabbard you may be right - will verify once it arrives. The rest is out of suspicion pure patina.
