I have noticed of late that questions asked by members are going unanswered to a degree. I'm not talking about comments on items, displayed, but questions by members seeking help. Compared to not too long ago, some questions go unanswered or receive maybe one reply after several days have passed. There have been exceptions, of course. I have tried my best to answer some questions, even though my knowledge in certain areas is limited. I feel those who post questions are entitled to a reply and no one is giving them one. We have too many knowledgeable people here in practically all areas of collecting for them not to assist a fellow member. I hope what I see as a negative trend will soon be reversed.

Grumpy.. Your right it is slow. I think people are busy or to tired to post. Most of the question i have seen lately i couldnt answer or didnt have the time but tried to answer the ones i could.

Never argue with an idiot, he will only drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. And remember the early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Look at the posts at GDC and compare the volume to posts on WAF.

Just now, after a space of about 6 hours, I find maybe one page of new posts here, and 10 pages of new posts on WAF.

Some of the heavy hitters from the past are entirely missing in action.

Why is that?

I think there was a lot of fighting between the big guys and they left. waf is bristeling with action. Also novice questions can seem boring to the older members. And the new guys feel snubbed. I try to be friendly and share what little I know to help things moving. If I don't knowa answer I will sometimes share to have others feel welcome.

Great thoughts Ian!!
I feel the same way although I am not a "Big Guy" but sharing thoughts is what got this forum started. Some times with "some",,not all!!.. of the Big Guys,, is they forget they were a small guy at one time, and it would be kind to return the favor to the newer guys regardless if the question is boring or not. ( Knowing your roots) As small guys we are the students and we have questions,, so there is a fine line to keep when reading, studying, asking too many questions and the teachers teaching.
I feel the same way and try to give a half decent knowledgeable answer,, but with all my heart.... to keep things going also.
People leave out of boredom, hurt feelings, pride or they just out grow the forum itself. Nothing wrong with growing,,but leaving for all the other reasons, one will never find the perfect forum,, and yet the other forums will have their problems just the same in different ways.
Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference in legitimate and illegitimate questions, so as not to feed into the fakers and scammers,,, this is a problem for everyone.
My advice for the serious new collectors is dont lose heart and be patient,, stick it out and build a trust for yourself,,read and learn,, here and in reference books,, and dont depend on the teacher all the time,, but only when as a student you have a question that is impossible to find an answer.
My advice to teachers since I am one myself outside of this forum,, be patient as you are with your own children,, no one is ever born an expert and have to learn by trial and error. What goes around comes around and so does snubbing,,and there will always be a bigger guy to do it.
I am one that would like to keep building this forum,,even during stormy periods,, there are still alot of great people and minds here and I enjoy the knowledge and experience. Larry
