All original, without any doubt.
Like in most cases, the tag must have been added because the knife is in good condition but far from mint. The blade has been cleaned and the oher parts show (honest) wear.
I never pay extra for bags or tags, but that is just my personal attitude.
Best greetings,
Herman

Even if the HJ knife is not mint, that tag is worth $300+ by itself. Very nice!

Hello John,
You are absolutely right: some people pay more for the tag (and/or the paper bag) than for the etched weapon itself... I have never understood that... these things were supposed to be thrown in the garbage bin!
I do understand that an original presentation case or a woolen storage bag adds value to a piece, but paper bags and tin tags... I will never understand...
Best greetings,
Herman

Herman, I think that why they are so rare and desirable, most were thrown in the trash. My father has a 1940 Ford, and looks for the original dealer advertising brochures, now worth hundreds of dollars because very few survived.
Here's a pic of some Eickhorn tags found in the attic of a fire department in Germany. The men got their firemen's bayonets, and someone saved this pile of tags....
