I don't like it myself. Thin etch. And the blade seems to be stainless steel?? The blade is definately not plated, is that legit?

Is the blade crossgrained? Your picture with the Pack maker mark seems to show it. Have to taken it down to look at the tang & any markings on the inside of the grip plates?

Yes, natural finish engraved blades were an option at Pack and I have had these as far back as the 1960s (see my book: German Clamshells and Other Bayonets)
John Z's presentation oval tank has a natural finish blade with the man's name in gold on the reverse with the same style Pack TM.

The blade is magnetic. And it looks like crossgrain. Woud this be a later style? It must be cheaper making an etch on a non-plate blade?

From Pack pre-war construction of known pieces with this style TM, I feel it is from the late 1930s, as seen by unit designated engraved bayonets with unit's town listed in the inscription.
Also, hand polishing of the unplated blade would be more costly, IMO.

Has anyone seen a distributor mrk on the back of an E.PACK(unmarked)etched bayo"TH.JOST
MILITA(?)BEDAR(P) GOTTINGEN?
Also,concerning etched bayonets..if quality
control was first and foremost and the etched bayonet did not pass "muster",then what happened to the rejects?Were they destroyed?
If they were just simply put aside,then"discovered later,wouldnt that make it even more rarer?Opinions PLEASE

Yes, Th. Jost Militarbedarf, Gottingen is a known distributor of Pack items. Since etched bayonet blades were extra cost options, I'd suspect items rejected by Solingen quality control would have been discarded. This picture was saved from Tom Wittmann's site & had the same etch as Henrik's piece above.

I think it interesting that "discarted" bayonets
didnt somehow find their way out of the factory
in someones lunch pale!I remember as a kid,my father would bring home discarded pieces of this and that from his machine shop and that probably was very common,one man"s junk......
