I think this badge should be discussed. Is this a recognized variant? It is no where in any reference I can find....

I am moving this to the appropriate Forum for discussion as it seems there is more to be learned about this rare badge.
Note that the item itself was in the For Sale Forum but has been withdrawn and is no longer for sale.

PLEASE GIVE ME THE STRAIT SCOOP ON THIS MEDAL.HERE IS MY TALE AND WHY I THINK IT IS GOOD. A LADY SAW MY AD IN THE LOCAL PAPER, I WENT OVER TO HER HOUSE AND THE LADY THAT CALLED ME WAS MY AGE 63 HER MOTHER WHO HAD THE BOX OF STUFF,TOLD ME IT WAS IN HER HUSBANDS STUFF, HE PASSED AWAY THE YEAR BEFORE. THE BOX HAD ABOUT 10 TINNIES, A FEW COMMON MEDALS AND THIS BADGE. I SOLD THE STUFF ON THIS FORUM A WHILE BACK. IT WAS ALL GOOD. WHEN I FIRST LOOKED AT HER STUFF I ASKED HER IF SHE HAD ANY IDEA WHAT SHE WANTED FOR THE BOX OF STUFF.............. THEY USUALLY SAY I DON'T KNOW MAKE ME AN OFFER. WEL SHE SAID $100.00 FOR ALL OF IT. I PAID HER AND LEFT. I SOLD THE OTHER STUFF CHEAP AND STILL MADE 300.00 AND KEPT THIS MEDAL. WHY WOULD THIS SINGLE MEDAL BE BAD. THANKS PAUL

well I am far from an authority on medals...except for the odd representational piece I have stayed away from them...I do not like the hinge construction nor the pin nor the gilt wash nor the overall detail...this is my opinion and I think that you should wait for more learned opinions. I have similiar stories to yours and there is often a mixture of good and bad and very seldom do we learn why. I hope that it is good and period for you...cheers, Ryan

Hi Paul, I'm not an expert but I don't like this badge either. Sadly your story is all too common. Many vets will have brought the odd item back and then in the 60s and 70s will have "added" items to their collections. I was offered and Army and an SS dagger recently. Both supposedly brought back by the sellers father. The Army was spot on - a beautiful piece. The SS was totally wrong. Gently I broke the news and said I didn't want it. I was accused of lying and thrown out of the house. The best advice I can give is to learn your subject inside out. I know daggers now and I know Iron Crosses but I remain very vary wary of all combat badges. I just haven't got to grips with them yet and there are so may good fakes (some less good too) coming out of Europe now. The guys on this forum are brilliant and I have learned so much from them. The good news is that there are people who collect fakes to put in uniforms etc so someone will buy it but not at the genuine price. Keep collecting, keep learning and don't take anything someone says to you at face value ......... cheers James
Always interested in buying NSDAP collar tabs and Eickhorns of any sort I collect badges and groups for the Polish Army in the West (Polskie sily Zbrojne Na Zachodzie) 1939/47 especially unit badges Contact me directly on [email protected]
