There's always a chance. Most of us have quit calling these from pictures due to the perponderance of high quality fakes in circulation. I would recommend you ship this ring to Don Boyle who is the only person whos opinion matters to the majority of the collecting community. He'll either issue a COA or tell you what's wrong with this ring. Jim

Gottlieb,
I believe that this ring is a reproduction with embellishments to make it look aged, worn and having surface damage.
Also, the engraving style is similar with a known reproduction.
I have one and also sold one at the last MAX show as a reproduction with this exact style engraving.
John

I didn't mean to imply above that Don Boyle is the only credible individual on authenticating TK rings. John Pepera is certainly knowlegeable as well as Andy Legare and Gaspare Bua. I should also add Rob Wells even though he doesn't post here any longer. Jim

There are some that will authenticate this ring right away by these photos.. Nonsense. Take heed in Johns comments! The fakes are so good nowadays that unless its a one looker most of us will not make a judgement call on it by photos alone.
Although has a pretty convincing engraving this is not a one look HR. *Since your getting it for free the absolute best thing would be to send it to Don Boyle. He has a tried and true method of have the rings sent to him and sent back safely,,OR, he will hold on to it and send to a buyer if that's what you desire.. Give him a try at: honorringman@webtv.net

Gaspare, thank you for jumping in. I have thought that someone who shows a TKR would be familiar with the certain DAL dates.
Dear ring guys, I am totally aware that judging a ring just by photographs is not seriously possible and an in hand inspection by ANY experienced collector (there are quite a lot of them) is needed. But these pics are very good and detailed, the inside engraving looks like the typical TKR true engravings and not like the one in cast fakes, the outside shows typical signs of an embossed surface and the typical signs of a 30´type ring with the certain marks, no sign of a cast fake. For me this ring has at least a 90% potential of being a a period one. Just my personal opinion, regards,

I hope the ring turns out original for your freind, but is all the pitting typical of a ground dug or that style of ring?Just a question to learn more and in no way a judgement. Thanks
