Congrats Paul!! In this hobby this is the most exhilarating feeling in the world to be able to find a grouping like this from the original owner. Nice to hear there is still woodwork out there!! Larry

Congratulations on aquiring these items directly from the family.I'm hoping his honor ring surfaces eventually and ends up back with this beautiful grouping.
Thank for posting this exiting find.

Thanks guys for your kind words.
It is refreshing to finally score. So many of us have put in our dues driving 3 hrs to look at a Spanish repro or waiting all morning at the local Tim Hortons for some guy who never shows up... always hoping for a good score.
There still is some great stuff out there!
This one I may just keep for me.
Presently I have commissioned Ross to do a research package. He does a great job, if I'm allowed to plug him. smile
I also have asked the family to give me some pictures or copies of pictures and check if they can find some more items. Man, if the ring shows up I'll be over the moon!!
Interestingly this guy served with his brother in the SS as well. His brother just passed in 2006. This is sorta different for me as so much I buy comes from US and Canadian Vet's. You just never get the "details" of history like this.

Paul,

Wow is all I can say. I'm impressed that you're tempted to keep the lot for yourself. I don't remember hearing you say that before.

Yes Paul, I'm fighting a losing battle myself. But it must be really tough for you with the amount of stuff you come across.

very nice score!
Did you scored it directly over in Germany or was there a 3rd person aka picker involved in it?

Thanks guys for the kind words. I'm pretty happy. Indeed Robert this came directly from the family meaning from their hands to mine no picker. And I have kept all the correspondence and their pictures so that is very clear. wink

Very nice and absolute seldom to get something out directly!
I know very well how this is in Germany and how hard real SS stuff is. Then you get once in a decade hit the market is undervalued for such rare items. Very valuable is you kept the whole correspondence.

Hi All:

I was able to look into Eugen Weigel in the National Archives yesterday. Found three good photos of him and his fiancée in his Race & Settlement File. He was not in his SS uniform, but the bust view includes something interesting. Not only is it exciting to put a face with this SS dagger and grouping, but he is wearing the Golden Parteiabzeichen!!! First time for me to put together the actual pin & a picture of the recipient wearing it. Not sure what the little pin below is. Thought it might be the ZA pin, but it is hard to see well on the microfilm. His führerstammkarte does not indicate membership, but that would not be the first time I have come across lack of this notation when they were members.

Congrats Paul & savor the moment!

When I first saw the photos of this dagger that Paul sent me I told him that this piece is an SS edged weapon of great importance and a wonderful discovery. My sincere congratulation to Paul for turning this piece up straight from the Fatherland!

Yes, Paul, I too know only too well the need to keep ID'ed great political daggers. It can become contageous and I have never given up any significant piece and I have several SS and SA dagger groupings that have a history.

Nice find Paul! I can truly relate to chasing these items, as 75% of the time you are being offered junk, stood up and waste a lot of time and gas!

This is one of the truly rare daggers with killer providence that we all dream about, people can search a lifetime and never find such a interesting historical item. Now if you can get his uniform :~) This is the most exciting thing posted on GDC in a year!

Fantastic group Paul ! Now if he had held the blood order also.....
I concure with Erich he appears to be wearing the small Fuess GPB in the photo, not the one that came with the group but nice to see all the same.
