Hey guys I just picked this up along with a whole pile of sword and dagger accoutrements out of the wood work. It's not for a police dagger, and I don't know what else it could be. Any info would be appreicated. Spencer www.victorymilitaria.com

The lug hole looks wider than for the usually seen bayonet scabbard lug. My guess would be for something with a wider & rounder lug like a Bayern Grenzjger seitengewehr.

Compared to the top down image of the pouch leather edge, the cut for the pouch hole seems relatively new. And it might not originally have been made for a bayonet. Having seen some adaptations of other kinds of items modified at some point to fit bayonets.
What would help here IMO would be some side by side images of known bayonets to get an idea as to its size/shape - as the pouch itself appears to be a tad on the narrow/cylindrical side. FP

Here's something I forgot to ask, does it smell like leather?

Not to sound like a smart A, But the hole size almost looks like the size for the lug on the scabbard for the bayonet on the BCN forum.

Maybe it is but from your pictures it appears the hole is more circular rather than oval/oblong.

The frog itself is constructed like those for a period service (98K) bayonet. And frog stud holes are one variable. I also know that this is not a side by side image - but instead is an amateurish computer generated simulation. But will the frog pouch even accept a bayonet? Using the simulation as a comparison, it looks like it might not be wide enough. FP
