Very nice dagger and yes, don't clean the fittings. The blade looks to be in very good shape. Congrats!

Very nice dagger by rare maker. Volker had two or three maker mark variations. This choo-choo train version is the rarest one.

I did clean the blade with a little Flitz. Does anybody have a rough estimate on what the value of this would be?? It was part of some trading I did and will probably be trying to sell it in the near future.

I'd say roughly $400 to $600. Blade looks great, but if its due to buffing then it would tend towards the lower side.

If the blade is in as good a condition as it appears, then it is worth a lot more than $400-$600 to someone who wants that particular maker.

Nice conditioned SAs go for 800-1400 on dealer sites.
The rarity and the condition of the blade would indicate the higher price is appropriate. Take off a couple of hundred dollars for the condition of the scabbard and, voila, you have a dagger that, IMHO, would sell for 1,000 easy... on a dealer site, it would be listed at 1,300+
My two cents worth.

nice dagger Brent. Just be careful if you clean the blade. It is easy to do a lot of damage. I tend to leave things as they are.

Agreed with all the above. I would estimate collector to collector value around $1000 as well.
Personally I would do nothing to this dagger if you intend to sell it on. This will allow the new owner to determine the best method, if any. These items are usually displayed at some point and then consigned to a drawer or other storage as collections grow and space does not. So for a short time the asthetics of the item become a higher priority than the tactile.
Happy collecting.

1000$ for this dagger? Really...you can get for this price a mint one with a little luck...maybe only if someone need exactly this maker would pay unreasonable money as 1000$ is...
