Looks like an original early dagger that has been upgraded with a Type II chained SS scabbard. The runes look to be a bit damaged or taken a hit but from what I see there it's all real and the parts right.

Daggers like this may be many things To me they may always be parts daggers.

While this dagger isn't "textbook" with a plain unmarked(No makers logo) blade it hardly appears to be a parts dagger. What I'm seeing is a very carefully upgraded 33 model to a 36 chained model. Whoever did this IMO did an excellent job.

thanks lakeside when you make a purchase like this and read some of the forums its kind of scary to think its not the real deal, you say the chained scabbard is type II daggar older would that effect the value, not sure how you can tell diff between type I AND II

Thanks for comment zorro is there any tricks in telling parts daggers and the real deal, the guy i purchased from backs it up and even had a guy he does buis with that specializes in german edged weapons check it out. Let me know what out of the pics gives you the impression it could be parts, when you purchase something of this cost you really want to know you mayed the right choice.

The one thing for sure without a doubt is that it is a parts dagger.It could have been done during the period but we will never really know when it was done.It's a great looking dagger and it is a great looking scabbard and they look good together but they were not made to go together.It still has value.The value is up to the buyer. I am surprised you would buy a chained ss dagger without knowing what makes it a parts dagger and why.Do not rely on other people to tell you what may be correct.Many times they have their own interest to take care of.Do some basic research.A textbook chained SS has no maker mark or group marks.You have a very early dagger that was put in one of the later plated type scabbard.It would make more sense if the scabbard was solid nickel like the dagger,but even if it was nickel it would still be a parts dagger.Your dagger is OK but I would not pay a premium for such a piece.But thats why they make early and RZM daggers. To each his own.

thanks again in your eyes what do you think a peice like this would be wourth and will it rise in value i was assured it was the real deal the marking on the blade from my research was one thing you had to look for when authenticating, he is willing to take it back if im not satisfied.

I have no real problem with Zorros analysis above. However; Rather than calling this a parts dagger I would refer to it as a field upgrade as it certainly appears to have been period done. Is there any way of proving this? Unfortunately not and this does affect the value since it isn't a textbook model 36.
Bottom line: It's a nice dagger and I certainly would have it in my collection.

thanks jim the collector i purchased from is selling it through an estate he is not up on german daggers but had it looked at by one whos does collect what do you feel a peaice like this is worth a need a little peace of mind or who may be able to help

Being a SS item it probably will rise but lately the whole market has taken a substantial drop.I can also agree that field upgrade is a better term than "Parts Dagger".Value wise I do not think you would have any trouble selling it for $4500.00-$5500.00 The whole piece is ib great shape and such upgrades did take place during the period. I was just trying to convey that there is no way to know for sure.Hence the reduction in value compared to a textbook value.
