Just aquired this weltersbach from a friend. First one by this maker that I have ever owned. Is this maker considered rare or hard to find? Rod

Let's put it this way Rod, per the McSaar, it's over a 7! I don't want to get in any trouble for giving you the EXACT rating..."Scouts Honor"! You sure FIND them. That SA is PRETTY!

Surely the best Rod, congrats Its a great maker, the firm Wilhelm Weltersback was founded in 1882, so, Weltersbach was one of the older traditional Solingen companies. They always made high quality hunting stuff, and made several brands, like the popular "Weidmannsheil", with this logo; Weidmannsheil meaning something like "good hunting". But also the Weltersbach-brand Laufbrunnen was popular. Already Weltersbach got many commisionwork from big companies like Puma, who also made awesome SA's. After the war, Weltersbach still made smith work. Early 1990, the Weltersbach production stopped, and the company sold stock that was left. In 1994, Weltersbach company stopped altogether and ended. Company Josef Theodor Diefenthal bought the rights to Weidmannsheil brand, and still makes knifes with it today. Bye, KR

Very fine early example with a rare maker. The rarer makers use of better materials has the most pleasing end result, in German craftsmanship.
Together with the short amount produced makes it all the more desirable. These early small producers are the Champagne of quality, that is rarely seen in the larger producers.
Remember its history!! Cheers

A little-known manufacturing SSman certainly, you have a very nice SA dagger of the first period, my congratulations on your part.
